Teeth whitening with turmeric – does it work?

Who hasn't always dreamed of radiant white teeth? Teeth should not only be healthy but also radiate a certain attractiveness.

There are numerous products available today in pharmacies or discount stores that promise to whiten teeth or remove various stains.

Dentists also offer professional teeth bleaching, which costs around €400 - 700 and is not covered by health insurance i.d.R. Such a treatment is not only expensive but also harms the teeth and gums.

Unfortunately, over time, most people experience stains on their teeth due to z.Bcoffee, nicotine, red wine, etc. Since the dark deposits and stains not only look unattractive, one often wonders how to make their teeth look "radiantly white" again.

Conventional toothpastes, whether with or without teeth whitening, are increasingly criticized as they often contain questionable and unhealthy ingredients such as z.B. Triclosan, fluorides, or flavors.

For many years, however, the teeth whitening properties of this turmeric root have been considered an "eco-secret tip".

The following describes how to whiten your teeth with turmeric as a natural alternative, all without chemicals.

Turmeric stains everything yellow, only the teeth become whiter

The best method is to chew a fresh turmeric root (preferably organic) for several minutes before going to bed and try to distribute the root directly on the teeth with your tongue. After just a few days and applications, a visible whitening of the teeth is usually already noticeable.

Those who cannot get used to the taste of fresh turmeric root (which has a slight ginger flavor, is very spicy, but more bitter than ginger) can easily make their own toothpaste with simple means. The following recipe has proven effective:

  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric
  • some freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon of finely ground Himalayan or rock salt

The three ingredients are mixed together and then stirred into a thick paste with a splash of coconut oil (also of organic quality). If you prefer peppermint oil, you can add a few drops to make the paste more aromatic. At the same time, the anti-inflammatory effect is further enhanced. The finished paste can now be used like a regular toothpaste. It should be noted that the bristles of the toothbrush will turn yellow upon first use. It is important that the paste is used as fresh as possible. Therefore, it is better to prepare several smaller portions that should be sealed airtight after use.

Bleaching with turmeric can only remove deposits and discolorations on the surface of the teeth, but not color changes that come from within.
